In order to have the energy to look after someone else, you need to look after yourself. It’s important to take care of your emotional and physical well-being.

Make time for yourself

Take some personal time, just for yourself. Go for a walk, listen to music, read a book – whatever brings you joy and helps you relax. 

Eat right & exercise

Making healthy food choices and being physically active are essential to keeping up your own health and energy.

Get some sleep

Sleep helps to rejuvenate your body and mind. 7 to 8 hours of sleep each night is key to resiliency and proper functioning.

Have compassion for yourself

Instead of thinking things like, “I should be doing more homework” or “I should be better at this”, give yourself credit for everything you are doing. Try to think of one or two things each day that you accomplished or that made you feel good.
