Getting Help at School as a student caregiver

Hello,
Does anyone have tips for getting accommodations at school when caregiving tasks become overwhelming? What types of policies do you use if you need extra time for an assignment?

Thank You

    Hi Felicia!
If your school has an accommodations/accessibility services office or counsellor you could meet with them and ask about your options! These types of offices usually offer mental health related accommodations if you are feeling overwhelmed or anxious. If you felt comfortable, you could also ask your family doctor or another medical professional (eg. counsellor) to help advocate for support for you with your school. When I was in school, my family doctor wrote a note to the accommodations office for me asking for extra time in exams because of the stress and anxiety I was experiencing related to caregiving and my parents health. I had several friends who also had extra time for different mental health or support reasons. I hope your school will help support you!
