Documentary Screening: Like a Mountain – Mindfulness for Young Caregivers (Thursday, May 28th at 7pm)

The Young Caregivers Association is a hosting a documentary screening (both in-person and virtually) to acknowledge Young Caregivers Day on May 28th at 7pm:

The Young Caregivers Association presents the live premiere of Like a Mountain: Mindfulness for Young Caregivers, a 25-minute documentary that follows Sam, who has carried the weight of supporting his father with a rare schizoaffective condition since childhood, as he joins filmmaker and cancer survivor Mike Lang and world-renowned mindfulness researcher Dr. Linda Carlson on a backcountry trek through the Yukon. Through honest dialogue and reflective practice, the film illustrates the hidden challenges and powerful resilience of young caregivers, revealing how acceptance and presence can transform adversity into strength.

Following the screening, attendees will engage with an interactive panel of speakers: young caregiver Sam Norman; his sister, Rebekah Gold, young caregiver and National Council Lead of the Young Caregiver Council of Canada; and Cayleigh Sexton, Executive Director of the Young Caregivers Association. Dr. Mike Lang will moderate the panel and discussion, followed by a guided mindfulness activity with Dr. Linda Carlson.

This event provides a unique opportunity to learn more about the experiences and strength of young caregivers, while offering a reflection on mindfulness as a powerful tool for supporting wellbeing and resilience. Whether you are a caregiver, family member, professional, or interested in learning more—everyone can connect with the universal themes this film explores: responsibility, identity, mental health, family, uncertainty, and growth.
