Hi everyone, I’m looking for suggestions/tips for healthy eating for a family member with dementia. They no longer cook and have trouble ordering food, so we often eat together or leave ready to eat meals in the fridge. I don’t have much time/energy after work to make big meals, so I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for supporting healthy eating for the family you care for? Are there are easy healthy recipes you often make or meal kit style services that you’ve tried which don’t require much cooking? Open to any advice, thank you!

I like those rotisserie chickens from the grocery store when I have no energy to cook – they can last for a few meals between dinner, sandwiches for lunch, sometimes I’ll make bone broth. I also buy bags of broccoli that you can microwave and steam in the bag. There are also bags of rice that you microwave as well. I haven’t tried a meal kit service, but that sounds easy!
Thank you for sharing @sunflower05! I am vegetarian so hadn’t thought about rotisserie chickens but I will definitely try them out 🙂
There are surprisingly many options! I find that when I go to any grocery store, they have pre-made meals and containers which include salad kits and snacks as well. I also love buying in bulk to save time from frequent grocery store trips. And hey, if worse comes to worst, a meal replacement drink helps a lot too! (ensure). My family member with dementia always loves those when I am just too busy during the day.
