It’s officially been over a year since COVID-19 changed everything. How has the pandemic changed things for you? Some people have found it easier to be a caregiver, since they can be home with their family. Others find it harder, because it’s harder for people to help since people can’t come over. Let us know how it’s affected you!

It’s good because I can be home more, but also a lot lonelier.
Hi dizzydancer. You’re totally right. On one hand, the pandemic has made some things easier, like working or doing school from home so you don’t have to arrange care for your family member, but it’s a lot lonelier too. I am hearing from a lot of people that they are having a hard time getting the support they need right now.
I wonder if you’d be interested in attending our online support group? Here is the link if you’d like more information or to sign up:https://youngcaregiversconnect.ca/join-our-peer-support-group/
We also have quite a few young caregivers in our 1:1 Peer Support Program here. It can be a nice way to connect with a volunteer who has a similar experience as you do. Here is the link:https://ontariocaregiver.ca/peersupport/find-a-mentor/.
I find being a caregiver has become easier in some aspects but harder in other aspects. Social distancing measures has made it challenging to actively practice caregiving to those that need it most and to those who are at high risk of contracting covid-19; personally I am always working with people so I have to be isolated from those that need caregiving. On the other hand, it has been easier to provide emotional support for my immediate family such as my younger sister because she is always at home as a result of her school being online.
That’s such a good point, and that’s been my experience too. I find working from home really convenient. But some kinds of support are a lot harder to get. Especially before people were getting vaccinated, it was a really scary time.
It’s great you can be there to support your sister. Do you find she needs more support than usual with online school? I’ve heard it’s been really hard on young people. But it sounds she has lots of support at home, which makes a big difference.
I find that when everything was closed especially schools, I found myself being able to spend far more time caregiving and less time commuting to and from school and work.
