I don’t lol. Does anyone have tips for me. My teachers know but I still feel bad handing in everything late.
Hi dizzydancer. It’s good that you have shared this with your teachers! I can appreciate how tricky that must have been. You might find reading Micaela’s story helpful: https://youngcaregiversconnect.ca/stories/im-micaela-and-i-provide-care-for-my-father/. In it, she talks about how being a young caregiver often means not doing things as well as you’d like to. She recommends reaching out for help when you need it. It sounds like you’ve already one that by talking to your teachers, and reaching out here! Well done.
Hopefully this will be a space you can connect with other young caregivers. They may have tips they can share that might help!
This might sound cliché, but what helps me manage school, work and caregiving is a creating weekly schedules and finding a routine to follow daily. Schedules help me to organize my time and my priorities such as deadlines for assignments and doctor appointments that I need to accompany my mother on. Finding a routine to practice is also very important because you are exercising self regulation, punctuality and discipline.
Hi unknown,
Thanks for sharing what works for you! Routines are so important, and caregiving can be such a challenge to our routines. Suddenly we are following someone else’s routine and not our own, and things like appointments can really throw a wrench in them. Just because you set a routine doesn’t mean you always have to stick to it, but it can definitely help!
